The Latinx Leadership Institute (LLI), new for 2018, is a 6-week, student-faciliated, and cohort-based leadership development program for 1st and 2nd Year Hispanic/Latinx emerging leaders. Recruitment takes place in the fall, ahead of sessions which typically take place in the Spring Semester, culminating in a final presentation in which participants present their findings on a semester-long project tackling issues within the Hispanic/Latinx community.

Please return to this page in the Fall Semester for details on how to apply to become a part of the 2019 Cohort of LLI!

Mission Statement

“We aim to empower Latinx students at the University of Virginia, providing a space for individual growth and the formation of lasting relationships among Latinx student leaders. We seek to enhance professional skills, build understanding of various Latinx cultures, and to develop leadership potential into action. Through these efforts, the Latinx Leadership Institute hopes to equip Latinx students to be successful leaders and maximize the endless opportunities available throughout the University and beyond."

Three pillars of LLI are:

  1. Professional enhancement
  2. Hispanic/Latinx cultural understanding
  3. Leadership development

If you have any questions, please contact the LLI Executive Director, Hector Quijano (hjq9hv@virginia.edu).
